How Do I Know if I Have Sciatica?

The symptoms of sciatica affect your back, hips, buttocks, and legs. The condition is painful and can be anywhere from mild to severe. Some of our patients at Southern Laser Spine may experience numbness or tingling in the legs.

Many patients describe sciatica pain as a sharp, sometimes burning pain that travels down the leg. It is common to experience sciatica after an injury or even while sitting.

Keep a record of your condition and how you are experiencing pain – this can help your doctor to determine where the pain might be originating from and which nerves are being pinched.

What is the Right Treatment for Me?

The treatment for lumbar radiculopathy, or sciatica, depends on the severity of the condition.

In many cases, Southern Laser Spine recommends that you relieve their symptoms simply by resting , but there are a number of treatments that could help your condition:

  • Hot or cold therapy
  • Steroid injections
  • Low-impact exercise like walking or yoga
  • Anti-inflammatory medication

There are only a few cases where Dr. Alexander considers surgical treatment necessary for pain relief, the most common being to remove the herniated portion of the disc. This relieves pressure on the nerves and helps with pain symptoms.

If your symptoms are a concern, make an appointment for a consultation with us today. We look forward to helping you!
